32% of the internet and climbing
by Rob Austin
If I told you about a stock that had done nothing but increase in value over the past 20 years, and that this stock was still growing every minute of every day, you’d sit up and start paying attention wouldn’t you? Well, unfortunately for the two of us, this is just an analogy not financial advice. I’m talking about the website content management system (CMS) WordPress.
If WordPress was a stock however, 2000 would be the ground floor, 2010 would be early and 2020 is still the beginning. WordPress currently powers over 32% of websites the Internet, and the number is only increasing. By the end of 2020, that number is expected to be 35% or higher.
Think about that number for a minute. 35% of the Internet!, a thing that is impossibly hard to conceive the size of because it is so large. In 2000, WordPress didn’t exist and now 1/3 of all sites are built with it. I could go on and on, but this page has more interesting statistics and info graphics than I can rephrase here. For a stat geek like me, it’s fun to stare at for a while just to absorb the crazy numbers.
If you’re building a new site, WordPress is clearly a safe choice for the platform to build it on. If your site already exists on a different platform, WordPress might be a longer lasting platform than the one you’re currently using. Regardless of your circumstances, WorkSite can help with it all!
